Motorhome Towbars
Here at Ambrow Trailers we have been making towbars for Motorhomes and Campervans since 1981, long before any mass producer of towbars was interested.There are very few vehicles that we cannot fabricate a towbar for and often relish the challenge of some of the more exotic Campers. The reason that there is not a recognised supplier of towbars for motorhomes is because there are so many different combinations of bodies on a myriad of donor chassis from all makes of commercial vehicle manufacturers,all seeming to have different lengths of body overhang and chassis fitment, some with no recognisable chassis at the rear at all. Others have water tanks and storage lockers and racks and steps at the rear, all seeming to stop you towing,we have seen them all. We will make a bespoke towbar for your vehicle.
There are usually towbars readily available for campervans ie: vans that have been converted from commercial vehicles to motorhomes using the original body. These may just need a bit of tweaking around the rear step and a normal commercial vehicle towbar will be just fine. If in any doubt just contact us and we will tell you just what you need.
With the custom made towbars there are two options to consider:
1. A full width crossbar at the rear of the vehicle,this will act as an underrun bar and a
bumper to protect the fragile fibre glass or plastic bodywork.

2. A single central towbar with a flange ball ,available to take all towing accessories and is neat and tidy.

Both towbars are fitted to the vehicle with a substantial steel frame.These bars are then fitted with single ,double or 13 pin sockets wired up to the latest wiring standards.
We normally make the towbar,paint and fit it with electrics within one working day but if you can allow a second day it helps us.
Normally the neck or crossbar is painted white but can be painted any colour,plastic coated,or galvanised to suit you.
PRICES are ; £595 for a full width crossbar with single socket electrics.
£385 for a central towbar ,flange towball and single socket electrics
£65 for the second socket [12S type] or 13 pin type socket
For painted colours,plastic coated or galvanised allow at least 2 to 3 weeks after we have made the towbar for these coatings to be applied.The price of these would be advised but it depends on the vehicle and style of towbar.Please call for a quote.
Commercial Towbars.
As with Motorhomes we have been making commercial vehicle towbars since 1981 for vehicles that do not have towbars mass produced for them.
Most commercial vehicles have a proprietary towbar made for them by the large manufacturers but where Vans and trucks have been modified or have been custom built or not built in the quantities to be worth while to the main towbarmanufacturers we will round it off with the perfect towbar.These are just "some" of the vehicles we have built towbars for;

All these vehicles can have the latest and more traditional towballs ,ball pin and jaws, sliding adjustable ball heights,stabilisers etc.

Imported Vehicles
By the very nature of this type of vehicle a lot that came into this country do not have towbars readily available for them. We Can Help.!! Some imports look the same as European Type Approved vehicles but up close there are usually very many differences.The Chassis are quite often a different size and bumpers and their mountings are usually quite different.If we cannot source a towbar for these vehicles then we can make the whole thing.Don't worry, if it can drive on the road then we can fit it with a towbar.Type approval laws do not apply to this category of vehicle If there is a towbar manufactured for these cars then we will tell you but rest assured we can put a towbar on for you, even if you have been told that there is not one made.
This type of vehicle is usually from ;The far east, mainly from Japan and China, Asia,mainly India, or America and Russia.
We have made towbars for electric cars and gas powered cars.
  
The G - Whizz a very small electric car with a 44mile range,
this one is used to tow a small sailing dinghy to the slipway.

Front Mounted Towbars
The favourite towbar for slipways .With a towbar on the front it is the simplest of operations to slip or recover a boat from the water.Everything the trailer is doing is right in front of you so Jackknifing is is a thing of the past. Also with the front wheels,the steering wheels, just in front of the trailer hitch control of the traileris a cinch.You can maneuver into the smallest of gaps with ease.
Please note:: You are not allowed to drive on the road with the trailer in this position,unlike a friend of mine who was so comfortable in this driving position that reversed all the way home with his 25 foot boat hitched to his front towbar.
This type of towbar/push bar is normally mounted slightly to one side so that the driver is able to see down the side of the trailer or caravan when maneuvering . Caravan maneuvering is especially simplified by the use of this towbar.

Specialist Towbars
Most towbars are covered in the previous sections but we can always find something new to mount a towball to. Please let us know what the craziest thing you have seen a trailer hitch on ??? .
Recently we had in our workshop on the same day a brand new Mercedes E class estate car, a 1967 Jaguar E type coupe and a 250 cc scooter all having towbars fitted simultaneously. Once a builder friend of mine left a wheel barrow for some welding and when he returned there was a very neat towball attached to the back!!
We can and have fitted towing jaws to garden tractors,towbars to excavators and have even fabricated connectors to barges.

Due to the nature of what we do, cutting and welding steel , means that we can make up those brackets and creations that can't be bought.But do bear in mind that as our core business is in the warmer months any fabricating projects are only really available in the winter months. Steel Stock
We have a small stock of lighter steel sections in stock and can supply you these in any lengths .As rough guide we have :
Flat section in ; 25, 30, 40, 50, 80,100 mm widths
Angle section in 20, 25, 30, 40, 50, 60, mm in various thickness's
Box section in 20, 25, 30, 40, 50, 60, 80, 100, normally in 3mm thickness.
Unequal box section in 25x50, 30x50, 40x60, 40x80, 50x100.
Other sizes can be brought in to order.
